173 Benue Indigenes Commence Nigerian Army Training at Oshogbo Depot

A total of 173 candidates from Benue State have been successfully inducted into the 90 Regular Recruit Intake (90RRI) of the Nigerian Army and have begun their basic military training at the Nigerian Army Depot in Oshogbo, Osun State.

The successful candidates emerged after a thorough and highly competitive recruitment exercise conducted in strict compliance with the Nigerian Army’s established standards and guidelines. The process, which took place at the NASME Barracks in North Bank, Makurdi, was described as transparent, credible, and free from undue influence or interference.

The Benue State Government has commended the entire recruitment team for their professionalism and dedication to upholding the integrity of the exercise. In a statement highlighting the achievement, special appreciation was extended to His Excellency, Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for creating a conducive environment that facilitated the smooth conduct of the recruitment.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Deborah Aber, also received praise for her effective coordination and administrative oversight, which officials said demonstrated full commitment to implementing the governor’s policy blueprint. Additional recognition went to Mr. Terna Akor Abiem, Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Affairs, and Comrade Iyorwuese, Information Officer in the Cabinet Office, for their active presence and representation throughout the exercise.

The recruitment team was particularly lauded for strictly adhering to laid-down procedures and resisting any form of external pressure, ensuring that only the most qualified and deserving candidates from Benue were selected.

As the new recruits settle into their training program at the Oshogbo Depot, they have been urged to maintain the highest standards of discipline, remain focused, and conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of their families, communities, and Benue State throughout their training period and future service in the Nigerian Army.

Meanwhile, Batch C candidates who participated in the same recruitment drive are expected to depart for training at another depot later in January 2026.

The successful induction of 173 Benue sons and daughters into the Nigerian Army is being celebrated as a significant milestone, reflecting both the determination of the state’s youth to serve the nation and the state government’s continued support for youth empowerment and national security initiatives.
