A 16-year-old female motor mechanic named Aisha has captured widespread attention in Makurdi, Benue State, after a local resident publicly praised her exceptional skills and determination to succeed in a traditionally male-dominated trade.
In a widely shared Facebook post on January 17, 2026, community figure D’Nnaked Elder Sughnnen Yaaya described taking his car to Aisha at a garage in the New Garage area of Makurdi for repairs. He highlighted her competence, calling her a “beautify girl” who is remarkably good at her work. According to the post, anyone visiting the garage should specifically ask for “Aisha the mechanic,” as she has built a reputation for reliable and quality service despite her young age.
Aisha reportedly shared that she is set to graduate from her apprenticeship in March 2026, after which she plans to open her own workshop. Her ambition is to become a CEO, establish financial independence, and support her family. The post noted her mixed heritage—her father is Hausa and her mother is Tiv—adding a layer of cultural pride to her story of breaking barriers.
Elder Yaaya expressed strong admiration for her talent and work ethic, recommending her services to his friends and urging the public to patronize her. He emphasized the importance of encouraging young people, especially girls, who defy stereotypes and pursue technical vocations. “She’s good! Help share for others to patronise her. We need to encourage her,” he wrote.
The story has resonated online, drawing praise for Aisha’s courage, skill, and vision at such a young age. In a society where women remain underrepresented in trades like auto mechanics, her emergence is being celebrated as an inspiring example of determination, gender inclusion, and youth empowerment.
Many commenters have called for more support for young women entering technical fields, with some suggesting that stories like Aisha’s deserve greater visibility to challenge outdated norms and motivate others. As she prepares to transition from apprentice to independent business owner, Aisha is already being looked to as a role model for aspiring female entrepreneurs and technicians in Benue State and beyond.
