The Executive Chairman of Ukum Local Government Area, Hon. Jonathan Modi, on Tuesday received the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Army’s 113 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Ihejirika, who visited the council for an inspection exercise aimed at strengthening security operations in the area.
During the visit, the council chairman led the military delegation to Aterayange, the designated permanent site for the establishment of the military barracks in Chito. Modi expressed delight at the visit, describing the presence of the military as a significant step towards strengthening security and restoring lasting peace across Ukum and the wider Sankera axis.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities. The chairman assured the Commanding Officer that the Ukum Local Government Council, alongside the people of the area, would provide the necessary cooperation to facilitate effective military operations and enhance the protection of lives and property.
While construction and development of the permanent barracks site are ongoing, the council has already secured accommodation for the military personnel to ensure the immediate commencement of their stay and operational activities in Chito.
In a show of appreciation, the senior military officers, led by Lieutenant Colonel Ihejirika, presented a meritorious award to Hon. Jonathan Modi at his residence in recognition of his steadfast commitment, consistent support, and contributions to security efforts in Ukum Local Government Area.
Accompanying the chairman were Hon. Thomas Mlanga, Majority Whip of the 9th Benue State House of Assembly, and Hon. Terfa Bosua, former chairman of Ukum Local Government, among others.
