Tragic Shooting in Jato-Aka Claims Four Lives, Several Injured in Benue State

The Jato-Aka community in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State was plunged into mourning on September 30, 2025, following a shooting incident allegedly involving personnel of the Nigerian Army. The tragic event claimed the lives of four youths and left several others injured, sparking outrage and calls for justice.

The confirmed deceased include Mr. Iorsuur Abuu from Moon Council Ward, Mr. Akula Shiija from Moon Council Ward, Miss Gloria Songo—a student of ATM Devine Academy Jato-Aka and the only child of her widowed mother from Yaav Council Ward—and Tersoo Msughter, a student of Turan Community Secondary School Jato-Aka from Yaav Council Ward. Among the injured victims are Terlumun Menenge, Sefa Aondoakula, Washima Aondoakula, and Imoter Aku, all students from local schools.

Community leaders have condemned the killings, describing them as a “grievous loss” to the people, particularly the families of the deceased, who were mostly young students. Calls have been made for a thorough investigation and for justice to be served. The incident has deepened tension in the area, with residents urging government and security agencies to ensure such occurrences are not repeated.
