A delegation of prominent Tiv ethnic nationality leaders from Nasarawa State has publicly thrown its weight behind the governorship ambition of Prof. Sebastian Hon, SAN, for the 2027 Benue State gubernatorial election.

The endorsement was announced during a thank-you and solidarity visit to Prof. Hon at his residence in Abuja on February 5, 2026, as reported by BENUE info-pedia. The group, led by Prof. Dugeri Terzungungwe, expressed strong confidence in the legal scholar and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, describing him as a purposeful, courageous, and justice-oriented leader capable of steering Benue toward progress.

The delegation commended Prof. Hon for his longstanding interventions on behalf of Tiv communities in Nasarawa State, particularly his pro bono handling of multiple legal cases challenging the alleged confiscation of ancestral Tiv lands by the Nasarawa State Government. They also highlighted his consistent support for Tiv youths in career advancement and his unwavering commitment to justice and equity.

A key point of praise was Prof. Hon’s defense of Prof. Zacharias Gundu in a defamation suit instituted by Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule. The leaders viewed the legal action as an attempt to silence Tiv voices in the state, and lauded Hon’s successful representation as evidence of his dedication to protecting the interests of his people.

According to the delegation, Benue requires a leader with integrity, boldness, and a proven track record of service—qualities they believe Prof. Hon embodies. They pledged to mobilize widespread support for his candidacy, particularly along the Ihyarev axis of Benue State, as well as among their extended family networks, friends, and associates across the state.

In his response, Prof. Hon expressed deep appreciation for the visit and the endorsement. He reaffirmed his lifelong commitment to justice, fairness, equity, and selfless service to humanity, assuring the group that he would continue to stand for the rights and welfare of Tiv people and all Benue citizens.

The endorsement signals an early but significant consolidation of support for Prof. Hon ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Benue State. As political realignments and aspirant declarations intensify in the coming months, the backing from Tiv leaders in the diaspora is expected to influence grassroots mobilization and broader ethnic consultations within the state.
