Tension has gripped Turan community following the arrest of Dickson Akaatyoo, popularly known as “D’publisher,” over an alleged ₦25 million fraud linked to a mining deal. The development has sparked outrage after claims emerged that funds meant for local youths were diverted.
The controversy centres on a financial arrangement between Akaatyoo and Mrs. Mandan Obigo, owner of Umtima Limited, a mining company operating in the area. The payment was reportedly intended to settle local youths and ensure smooth operations.
According to accounts from the community, Akaatyoo initially collected ₦20 million from the businesswoman, claiming it would be distributed to youths in Turan. He later returned, alleging the amount was rejected for being insufficient, and secured an additional ₦5 million bringing the total to ₦25 million.
However, it was later discovered that the funds were not delivered to the intended beneficiaries. Instead, Akaatyoo allegedly retained the money and sponsored protests, claiming the company had failed to support the community.
Sources within Turan say the revelation triggered anger among youths, who subsequently arrested him. People involved in the arrest include Luper Asongo, Sekaa Jande, and Sesugh Alex, also known as Smoky.
Residents have also raised concerns about misinformation allegedly spread against local authorities during the dispute. The situation remains tense, with many calling for a thorough investigation. Key questions linger: How long had the alleged scheme been ongoing, and were others involved?
