In a heartwarming display of integrity, Dengun David Aondoungwa, an SSS 3 student at St James Minor Seminary in Yandev, has been publicly commended and rewarded for an act of honesty that has captured widespread admiration.
During an evening football practice on Saturday, October 11, 2025, Dengun spotted ₦1,000 lying on the pitch, far from the view of other players. Shortly after scoring for the opposing side, he quietly picked up the money and submitted it to the Rector, Rev Fr Dr Dominic Asor — who, coincidentally, had been one of the players in the match.
The Rector, moved by the young man’s upright conduct, decided the gesture deserved more than silent approval. In a world often overshadowed by insincerity and corruption, Dengun’s modest act stood out as a powerful example of character rooted in sound formation.
On Monday, October 13, 2025, during the usual morning assembly where students are reminded of the consequences of wrongdoing, the tone shifted to celebration. Dengun was called forward — described as “a thin little lad, with a calm and collected mien.” In front of the entire seminary, the Rector announced a reward of ₦4,000 — four times the amount he had found and returned.
“This was besides the money he picked,” the post noted. “Without finding its owner, he was permitted to have it.”
The Rector used the moment to reinforce a vital lesson: good conduct is recognized and rewarded. Dengun’s name was proudly entered into the seminary’s Conduct Book — a rare and honorable distinction.
“This is when honesty pays,” the post concluded.
In an era where negative headlines dominate, Dengun’s story serves as a beacon of hope, proving that integrity, even in small things, leaves a lasting mark. His actions not only earned him a cash reward but also etched his name positively in the annals of his institution.
