President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially flagged off the construction of the Wurukum Flyover in Makurdi on Saturday, September 13, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the second phase of the Makurdi-9th Mile dualization project. Described as a gift to the people of Benue State and surrounding regions, the project is poised to transform transportation, agriculture, and trade across the state and beyond.

The flyover, a major component of the initiative, was not part of the initial budget but was presented as a special contribution from President Tinubu to Governor Hyacinth Alia. Speaking at the flag-off, the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, expressed gratitude to the Benue State government and residents for their cooperation and support, ensuring a smooth takeoff of the project. Umahi highlighted the federal government’s appreciation for the state’s intervention on federal roads, noting that such collaboration reflects governors’ love for their people.

He noted that the project will enable farmers to move produce, including fresh vegetables, from Benue to Abuja and other regions without heavy post-harvest losses. The project, spanning 260–520 kilometers in dual carriage terms, is one of the largest legacy projects under the current administration, with an estimated cost of $950 million, funded by China Exim Bank.
