A dark cloud is hanging over the North Bank area of Makurdi as a woman widely known in the community for claiming to remove fibroids without surgery now stands accused of inflicting severe, sometimes irreversible damage on dozens of women who sought her help.

According to victims and their families who have begun speaking out, the woman applies a black substance directly into women’s private parts during the “treatment.” What is initially sold as a painless, quick, and affordable alternative to surgery has, in multiple cases, resulted in massive vaginal bleeding, collapsed vaginal walls, excruciating pain, and permanent reproductive damage.

Some of the affected women have been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, fighting for their lives, while others have seen their marriages collapse under the weight of the complications. Medical staff at FMC are reported to have confirmed that they have treated several cases presenting identical symptoms, all tracing back to the same practitioner.

Victims say the woman demands huge sums of money, often running into hundreds of thousands of naira, before performing the procedure. Many women, desperate to avoid the cost and perceived trauma of hospital surgery, pay the money only to be left bleeding, ashamed, and terrified into silence.

“This kind of abuse cannot continue. It is time for the law to take its course,” one concerned resident told reporters on Tuesday night, vowing to keep the public updated as more women find the courage to speak.

As the story spreads rapidly across social media, residents are urging the Benue State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, the Ministry of Health, the Nigeria Police Force, and all relevant regulatory bodies to launch an immediate investigation and shut down the operation before more lives are ruined.

Women’s rights advocates in Makurdi are calling this a public health emergency and are pleading with any other victims to come forward, assuring them that they will not be judged and that their testimony could save others.

No arrest has been made as of Wednesday morning, 26 November 2025, but pressure is mounting for swift and decisive action.
