Nigerian adventurer and cyclist known as Real-Emmiwuks, who is undertaking an ambitious solo bicycle journey from Nigeria to the USA to raise awareness and support for vulnerable children, has issued a desperate appeal for assistance as he prepares to cross into the vast Sahara Desert in Mauritania.
In a heartfelt social media post shared on December 15, 2025, Emmiwuks described the crossing as “the biggest challenge standing in front of me right now.” Having already pedaled through multiple West African countries including Senegal, where he spent his remaining funds on a Mauritanian visa that was denied twice before finally being approved on the third attempt, he now faces the harsh realities of the desert with failing equipment.
His gadgets and power banks, crucial for navigation, communication, and safety in the remote expanse, have been compromised—likely by recent rain—leaving him with only one weakly functioning device that holds a charge for barely 30 minutes. “The desert is not a place to joke with power or communication,” he wrote, emphasizing the risks of isolation, cold nights, and loneliness without reliable power to charge his phone or maintain contact.
Exhausted and financially drained, Emmiwuks admitted that while he had planned as best he could, limited resources have left him vulnerable. “I’m not asking for luxury. I’m asking for survival,” he stressed, urgently requesting strong power banks, reliable power storage solutions, durable internet data to last a week, cooking gas, and basic food supplies to carry him through the treacherous phase.
The cyclist, whose journey—documented under hashtags like #NIG2USA—has inspired many across Africa for its message of unity, hope, and perseverance, reiterated that turning back is not an option. “The journey must continue regardless of the outcome,” he said, acknowledging criticism but standing firm in his mission.
Emmiwuks called on supporters to help in any way possible, noting that their assistance could “literally determine how safely I cross this phase of the journey.” He encouraged tagging others who might provide aid and expressed gratitude for the belief in his cause.
