In a remarkable feat of endurance and determination, Nigerian cyclist Emmanuel Myam, better known as Emmiwuks or Real-Emmiwuks, has become the first person to ride a bicycle from Nigeria to Mauritania, crossing 12 countries in the process. The achievement was recently recognized by KayAfrica, a prominent voice in African adventure and exploration, which hailed Myam as “the first man to ride a bicycle from Nigeria to Mauritania — 12 countries, one man, one mission.”

Myam, a native of Benue State, embarked on this extraordinary journey in July 2025 as part of his ambitious #NIG2USA project: cycling from Nigeria all the way to the United States. Powered solely by his bicycle, affectionately nicknamed “Little Eagle,” he set off from Lagos with a deeper purpose beyond personal challenge — to raise awareness and support for orphaned and displaced children affected by conflicts across Africa. “Every mile I pedal represents the strength these kids show every day,” he has often shared with followers.

The route has taken him through the vibrant landscapes and diverse cultures of West Africa, starting in Nigeria and progressing through Benin, Togo, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, The Gambia, and Senegal before entering Mauritania — his 12th country. Along the way, Myam has faced relentless challenges: scorching heat, punishing roads, frequent border delays, mechanical issues with his bike, and the sheer physical toll of pedaling thousands of kilometers with limited resources.

Yet, amid the hardships, the journey has been defined by moments of profound human connection. From warm welcomes at Nigerian embassies to strangers becoming instant family, Myam has repeatedly emphasized Africa’s unity. “Together we ride. Together we rise. Viva Africa,” has become his signature mantra, echoed in posts that have inspired thousands online.

Upon reaching Mauritania in mid-December 2025, after crossing into the vast desert nation from Senegal, Myam pushed on to the capital, Nouakchott. The recognition from KayAfrica came shortly after, capturing the milestone in a newspaper-style feature that celebrated not just the physical accomplishment but the spirit behind it: a mission of hope, resilience, and fearless pursuit of purpose.

As Myam continues northward through the Sahara toward Morocco and eventually Europe, his story stands as a powerful testament to what one determined individual can achieve. In an era of quick travels and digital distractions, his slow, grueling pedal across the continent reminds us of Africa’s unbreakable spirit and the enduring power of dreams chased on two wheels. The road ahead remains long and uncertain, but if the past months are any indication, Emmiwuks will keep riding — for the children, for Africa, and for the belief that no border is too daunting when purpose leads the way.
