Residents of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area in Benue State are expressing deep frustration over the prolonged neglect of the town’s central roundabout, which has lain in a state of disrepair for months following its demolition earlier this year. Once a prominent landmark greeting visitors to this major commercial and administrative hub, the site now presents an eyesore that locals say detracts from the town’s image and raises questions about accountability.

The demolition was carried out under the leadership of the council chairman, Hon. Justine Orangoholga (commonly referred to as Shaku Justine), who cited ambitious plans for massive construction and beautification as the reason for pulling down several shops in the area. The move was intended to pave the way for significant upgrades that would enhance the town’s infrastructure and aesthetics.

However, many months later, no visible progress has been made on the promised redevelopment. The roundabout remains untouched, with debris and overgrown vegetation marking what was once a bustling spot. Locals describe it as an “unwelcoming sight” for those entering Katsina-Ala, arguing that the current condition falls short of what one would expect at the headquarters of a local government council.

Voices from the community are growing louder, calling on the Katsina-Ala Local Government Council to either kickstart the long-awaited construction without further delay or provide a clear explanation for the hold-up. As a key center in Benue State, Katsina-Ala deserves infrastructure that reflects its importance, residents insist, urging authorities to address the issue promptly to restore pride in the town.
