A Makurdi-based entrepreneur, Doosuur Dorcas Gbakaan, has ignited a heated conversation online after accusing many Tiv men of prioritising sexual interest over genuine support for hardworking women. Her comments, shared publicly, have triggered debate on gender dynamics, opportunity access, and cultural attitudes in Benue State.

Gbakaan, the founder of JAYDOO 360 Nig. Ltd a business involved in catering, hair extensions, real estate, and general merchandise did not hold back in expressing her frustration. In a strongly worded statement, the businesswoman claimed that as a Tiv woman, encountering men whose primary intention is sexual rather than supportive is “very high.” “I owe no one an apology for this,” she said, maintaining a firm stance on her experience.

She argued that even when women demonstrate hard work and talent, they are often reduced to mere objects of desire rather than being recognised for their capabilities. According to her, the issue goes beyond financial assistance. She alleged that many men are unwilling to connect women to growth opportunities that could advance their careers or businesses. “They’ll never point you to an opportunity that would help you grow never,” she stated emphatically.

Her remarks come as a reaction to a similar position earlier expressed by Maureen Msooter Terhemba, indicating a growing wave of voices calling out perceived systemic bias against women in professional spaces. Gbakaan dismissed any attempt to soften her claims, insisting she stands by her words despite possible backlash. “Majority carries the votes… I’m not in the mood for any shenanigans,” she added, rejecting calls to tone down her generalisation.

Despite the criticism, the entrepreneur struck a hopeful note, emphasising her belief in divine intervention. “I’m a firm believer in God… no human being can stand in my way if God does not permit it,” she said, expressing confidence that the right opportunities and people will align with her journey.

The statement has amplified ongoing conversations around gender inequality in access to opportunities, workplace and business support systems for women, and cultural expectations and social behaviour in local communities. As reactions continue to pour in, the controversy highlights a deeper societal issue that may require both reflection and reform. What started as a personal expression has quickly evolved into a broader public discourse, raising critical questions about respect, empowerment, and the role of men in supporting women’s success in Nigeria’s evolving business landscape.
