In a remarkable display of self-reliance and collective action, residents of the Adagagi and Achia communities in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State have successfully built a local bridge across River Amile, officially opening a much-needed shortcut road that connects the two neighboring areas.

The project, completed on January 9, 2026, was entirely financed and executed through a communal self-help initiative involving both men and women of the communities. The new bridge and accompanying road are expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve accessibility, and boost economic and social interactions between Adagagi and Achia.

For years, residents have faced challenges crossing the River Amile, especially during the rainy season when water levels rise and make movement difficult or impossible. The homemade bridge now provides a safer and more convenient alternative, allowing easier transportation of goods, access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities, and social visits.

The achievement has been widely celebrated locally as an inspiring example of what can be accomplished when communities come together to address their own needs, particularly in areas where government intervention has been slow or absent.
