In a historic ceremony that blended royal tradition with academic excellence, His Royal Majesty Dr. Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji (Agaba-Idu), the Paramount Ruler of Idoma Worldwide, has been officially installed as the new Chancellor of the Federal University Otuoke (FUO) in Bayelsa State.
The installation took place on Thursday, December 11, 2025, during the university’s second combined convocation ceremony held at its main campus in Ogbia Local Government Area. The event marked a significant milestone for the young federal university, which has continued to grow in stature since its establishment in 2011.
In his acceptance speech, the revered monarch expressed profound gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him and pledged to lead with integrity and vision. “I shall serve with openness, goodwill, and a genuine desire to make this institution a home of excellence and pride,” Dr. Obagaji declared, emphasizing the critical role of universities in producing citizens who can build, innovate, and heal the nation.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Barr. Ali Sa’ad Birnin Kudu, described the appointment as a timely boost that would strengthen governance and elevate the university’s mission in teaching, research, and community service.
Delivering the convocation lecture titled “From Degree-Awarding to Problem-Solving Institutions: Retooling University Education for Nation-Building,” the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, challenged Nigerian universities to shift from traditional degree-focused systems to problem-solving institutions. He advocated for curriculum upgrades, a stronger research culture, and deeper engagement with local communities to address real national challenges.
Dr. Ogbuku also urged the graduating students to remain committed to continuous learning, uphold good character, and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.
The installation of the Agaba-Idu as Chancellor is seen by many as a powerful symbol of the growing synergy between traditional institutions and modern education in Nigeria’s quest for progress. With a monarch of his standing at the helm, Federal University Otuoke is poised for a new chapter of growth, transparency, and purposeful leadership.
