In a glowing assessment that underscores the ongoing revival of healthcare delivery in Benue State, the State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Ejeh Ogwuche, has showered praise on the Chief Medical Director of Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, for what he described as “exemplary leadership and transformational strides” barely two years into his tenure.

The commendation came on Monday, 1st December 2025, during the Commissioner’s maiden official familiarization visit to the state’s flagship tertiary hospital. Accompanied by top officials of the ministry, Dr. Ogwuche said the tour was aimed at assessing operations, challenges, and prospects of the facility while exploring ways to further align it with Governor Hyacinth Alia’s people-centered health agenda.

He particularly lauded Governor Alia’s unflinching support for these milestones and commended Dr. Hwande for strengthening service delivery, boosting staff morale, and repositioning BSUTH as a centre of excellence.

While celebrating the progress, the CMD openly highlighted lingering challenges affecting smooth operations: irregular overhead releases, staffing shortages, and unpaid 2023 hazard arrears for health workers. The Commissioner assured that these concerns would be urgently escalated to the appropriate quarters for resolution.
