Chief Daniel Abomtse Ayua, the Ter Nagi of Gwer West and Chairman of the Traditional Council in Benue State, has issued a stirring call to the Tiv people, urging them to remain resolute, courageous, and united in the face of escalating insecurity across the region.

Known for his fearless and outspoken advocacy against armed herders, terrorists, and other threats to Tiv communities, Chief Ayua—who previously served as Chief Press Secretary to the Tor Tiv—delivered the message with characteristic directness. He emphasized that asserting the right to self-protection and community defense does not offend God, but rather reflects the responsibility of a people to safeguard their lives, farmlands, and heritage.

In his address, the traditional ruler encouraged Tiv citizens to fully embrace their inherent qualities of bravery, wisdom, and humility. He described these attributes as essential tools for navigating and ultimately overcoming the current wave of challenges confronting the Tiv nation.

Chief Ayua’s statement comes at a time when many communities in Benue State continue to grapple with persistent attacks on villages, kidnappings, destruction of crops, and displacement of families—issues that have long been attributed to clashes between farmers and armed herders.

The Ter Nagi’s remarks are widely seen as both a morale booster and a reminder of the deep-rooted values of resilience, unity, and self-reliance that have historically sustained the Tiv people through difficult periods.

While the call for courage and self-assertion has resonated strongly among many Tiv indigenes, it has also sparked broader discussions about the balance between community self-defense, lawful conduct, and the role of formal security agencies in restoring lasting peace.
