Governor Hyacinth Iormemem Alia has inspected ongoing construction work on student hostels at the Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (BUAST), Ihuugh, expressing satisfaction with the pace of progress and reaffirming his administration’s commitment to quality tertiary education in the state.
During the visit on Sunday, February 22, 2026, the governor described education as a critical driver of development, essential for equipping Benue youth with skills in agriculture, entrepreneurship, and other sectors to compete in the global economy. He emphasized that his government is determined to harness education’s potential to transform the state.
As part of efforts to support access to higher education, Governor Alia approved the full sponsorship of 2026 JAMB UTME registration for 400 pre-degree and remedial students of BUAST. The gesture aims to encourage and enable students to pursue academic dreams without financial barriers, contributing to the state’s long-term development.
The governor also referenced the recent launch of the Building Rights to Access and Compulsory Education for Un-enrolled Pupils (BRACE-UP) project, which seeks to ensure no child of school age is left out of basic education. He described BRACE-UP as a vital component of his administration’s strategy to promote inclusive education and reduce poverty.
Governor Alia urged students to take full advantage of available opportunities, including the sponsored JAMB registration, to advance their studies and play active roles in Benue’s progress.
The inspection and approvals underscore the Alia administration’s focus on revitalizing infrastructure and expanding access to education at both secondary and tertiary levels across Benue State.
