On December 18, 2025, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Executive Governor of Benue State, was honored with a decoration by the Leadership of the Nigerian Legion, Benue State Chapter. The ceremony took place during an Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting held to commemorate the upcoming 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Governor Alia, alongside his Deputy, Barr. Sam Ode, and other officials, received the recognition as a symbol of appreciation for their support toward veterans and the Legion’s activities. The event highlighted the state’s commitment to honoring Nigeria’s fallen heroes and promoting initiatives that foster peace, security, and dignity for all citizens.
In his remarks shared following the occasion, Governor Alia emphasized that true remembrance goes beyond words, stressing the need for deliberate actions to support ex-servicemen and ensure lasting security. This decoration comes as part of nationwide preparations for the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed annually on January 15, providing an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces.
