Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has publicly commended Seed of Royalties Academy (SORRA) Heights in Gboko for its outstanding record of academic excellence and discipline, describing the institution as a shining model for educational transformation in Benue State.

During a courtesy visit to the school on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Old Banquet Hall of Government House in Makurdi, the Governor praised SORRA’s consistent dominance in prestigious competitions. The academy has repeatedly claimed top honours in the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) contests and the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN) competitions at both state and national levels, earning trophies across multiple categories and helping position Benue firmly on Nigeria’s education map.

The Principal of SORRA Heights, Mr. Gabriel Adu, highlighted the school’s achievements while lauding the Governor’s administration for its youth-friendly policies, massive infrastructural improvements—particularly in Gboko—and tangible support for exceptional students. He specifically referenced a scholarship awarded to a SORRA student who achieved the highest JAMB score ever recorded in the state’s history.

Governor Alia described SORRA as an embodiment of purposeful leadership, discipline, and dedication—qualities he said are essential for rebuilding the state’s education sector. He reflected on his personal connection to the institution through a lifelong friendship with Mr. Nick Ankyoor, father of a current SORRA student and his own primary school classmate, underscoring how education fosters enduring bonds and positive character development.

Addressing teachers and students directly, the Governor urged the young learners to remain focused and disciplined, reminding them that they represent the future leaders of Nigeria—potential Governors, Presidents, and Ministers. He emphasized the enormous sacrifices parents make to provide quality education and challenged the students to honour those efforts by becoming responsible, productive citizens.

In a personal anecdote, Governor Alia shared his own humble beginnings—growing up in a thatched house and engaging in manual labour during secondary school to pay his fees—using his journey as proof that discipline, faith, and perseverance can overcome any obstacle.

As a practical demonstration of support, the Governor presented an 18-seater bus to SORRA Heights to enhance the school’s operations, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to backing institutions that promote excellence.

In a significant policy announcement, Governor Alia revealed the formation of a three-member committee tasked with touring schools across Benue State. The committee’s mandate is to identify outstanding students, formally recognize their achievements, and provide support for their future endeavours. The initiative aims to institutionalize a culture of merit, reward hard work, and inspire healthy competition among learners.

The Governor’s message was clear: excellence will be identified, celebrated, and supported wherever it emerges. For Benue State, he declared, education is not merely a sector but a legacy in the making—one built on purpose, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the next generation.

The event was documented by Donald Kumun, Principal Special Assistant to the Benue State Governor on Print Media, writing from Makurdi.
