A prominent community voice in Benue State has raised alarm over what he describes as ongoing, daily killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen, accusing authorities and residents of carrying on as though normalcy has returned while communities continue to suffer violent attacks.

In a widely circulated Facebook post dated January 29, 2026, D’nnaked Elder Sughnnen expressed deep frustration, stating: “We are acting in Benue like everything is fine but Fulani herdsmen are still killing our people daily.”

The elder highlighted two specific incidents reportedly occurring in quick succession:

– An attack on Kadariko village, where one person was confirmed killed.
– A separate violent episode along the Udeadadeku/Anen road in the Anwase/Abande area of Kwande Local Government Area, where one person was confirmed dead and many others are feared killed.

The post, accompanied by images depicting rural scenes and apparent aftermath of insecurity, underscored a growing sentiment among some community members that the frequency and severity of attacks have not abated despite public assurances of improved security.

Kwande Local Government Area, located in the southern part of Benue State and sharing borders with Taraba and Cross River states, has historically been one of the flashpoints for farmer-herder clashes in the region. Disputes over land use, grazing routes, and access to water resources have repeatedly escalated into deadly confrontations, often leaving rural farming communities vulnerable.

Elder Sughnnen’s statement reflects broader anxiety among residents who feel that the human cost of the lingering crisis is being downplayed in official narratives. Calls for stronger security deployment, community vigilance, and genuine dialogue between herders and farmers have intensified in recent months, yet many locals report that violent incidents persist with little visible reduction.

As of the time of this report, neither the Benue State Police Command nor the state government has issued an official confirmation or denial of the specific attacks mentioned in the January 29 post. Security operatives in the affected areas have not publicly commented on the reported casualties along the Udeadadeku/Anen road or in Kadariko.

The recurring violence continues to fuel debates over long-term solutions, including ranching policies, improved rural policing, and conflict resolution mechanisms. For many in Benue’s farming communities, the fear of sudden attacks remains a daily reality, overshadowing efforts to rebuild normal life.

This latest expression of concern serves as a reminder that insecurity in parts of the state remains a pressing challenge, with ordinary citizens bearing the heaviest burden. Further updates will follow should official statements or additional details emerge.
