On December 25, 2025, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) social media activist in Benue State, Mr. Asom Jerry, launched new accusations against Governor Hyacinth Alia, claiming the governor is prioritizing personal family interests over pressing state issues. Jerry specifically alleged that two young boys, identified as Alia’s biological children, are beneficiaries of overseas scholarships sponsored through a scheme linked to the governor and facilitated by All Saints Catholic Parish in West Oakland Park, Florida, United States.
According to Jerry, the governor has focused on securing educational opportunities abroad for his alleged sons while showing apparent indifference to ongoing security challenges, including persistent killings attributed to suspected herdsmen attacks across parts of the state. He further claimed that short-street construction projects currently underway in various locations are incentives offered by Italian interests intended to bolster Alia’s prospects for a second term in office.
The activist described these actions as evidence of misplaced priorities and called for immediate measures to curb what he termed the governor’s political ambitions ahead of future elections. Jerry indicated he intends to reveal additional details supporting his claims in due course.
As a Catholic priest turned politician who took vows of celibacy, Governor Alia has not publicly acknowledged having biological children, and no independent verification of the scholarship beneficiaries’ identities or the program’s details has emerged. All allegations remain unverified, with efforts to obtain an official response from the governor’s office ongoing at the time of this report.
This latest controversy adds to previous criticisms leveled by Jerry against the administration, amid a broader backdrop of political tensions in Benue State involving governance, security, and resource allocation.
