The Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Hon. Engr. Joseph Utsev, was warmly received in Otukpo, Benue State, today during a working visit focused on inspecting ongoing projects at the Otobi Water Works.
The Minister arrived in Otukpo where he was greeted by a large crowd of community members, local leaders, and residents who turned out to welcome him before the official inspection commenced. The visit forms part of efforts to assess progress on critical water infrastructure projects aimed at improving access to potable water in the region.
According to reports from the scene, the Minister proceeded directly to the Otobi water works site for an on-the-spot evaluation of the ongoing construction and operational activities. The inspection is expected to provide firsthand insights into the status of work, challenges being encountered, and steps needed to accelerate completion and ensure the facility delivers reliable water supply to Otukpo and surrounding communities.
The Otobi Water Works project has long been identified as a key intervention to address water scarcity and enhance public health outcomes in Otukpo Local Government Area and parts of Benue South Senatorial District. Federal government investment in the scheme is seen as vital to supporting rural and semi-urban populations amid growing demand for sustainable water resources.
Community members expressed optimism that the Minister’s visit would lead to renewed momentum on the project, with calls for timely completion to bring lasting benefits to the area. The warm reception underscored local appreciation for federal attention to infrastructure development in the state.
The visit comes at a time when Benue continues to grapple with multiple development challenges, including security concerns in some communities, as highlighted by separate reports of a recent attack in Iwansev where gunmen reportedly killed two persons and abducted three others.
Hon. Engr. Joseph Utsev’s engagement in Otukpo signals the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritising water infrastructure as part of broader efforts to improve living standards and promote economic activities in rural Nigeria.
