In a significant legislative move, the Benue State House of Assembly has amended the law governing the naming of Benue State University, Makurdi, officially renaming it Father Adasu University, Makurdi. This change, announced during a plenary session in Makurdi on Thursday, September 11, 2025, simplifies the previous title, Rev. Fr Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, which was deemed too lengthy.

The decision follows a debate on the report presented by the House Standing Committee on Higher Education. Majority Leader Mr. Saater Tiseer (APC/Mbagwa) led the discussion, emphasizing that the former name, adopted in December 2024, was cumbersome. The amendment aims to honor the university’s founder, Rev. Fr. Moses Adasu, in a more concise and impactful way.
