A second woman has come forward with a chilling account of narrowly escaping what she believes was an attempted abduction in Makurdi, reigniting public alarm over repeated reports of suspicious activities linked to Awe Street in the Wurukum axis.
In a widely shared Facebook post by user D’nkaked Elder Sugnhnen Yaaya, the woman’s father recounted how his daughter, while riding an okada (commercial motorcycle) from Gboko Road to High Level, encountered a middle-aged rider who requested permission to branch to Awe Street to supposedly pick up a parcel.
The daughter, according to the post, immediately recalled a similar warning story that had circulated days earlier about a lady who claimed to have been lured to the same location and nearly taken into a suspected “human slaughtering house.” Acting on instinct, she firmly declined the detour.
When the rider persisted, she told him her mother had asked her to buy something from Sudo Pee supermarket, which they were already approaching. The rider reportedly agreed without complaint, took her to the supermarket, and even suggested he would wait while she made the purchase so they could then proceed via a street beside the State Library—another route leading toward Awe Street.
Unsettled, the young woman entered the supermarket, called her father, and explained the situation. The rider followed her a few steps inside before speaking to her in the Tiv language: “Ungu Tiv shi Ufa kwagha nahan yem kwagha wough,” which loosely translates to a remark acknowledging her as a “good Tiv girl.” He then allowed her to leave unharmed.
The father described the moment as divine intervention, stating that he has been praising God since picking up his daughter and urged residents—especially in Makurdi—to remain extremely vigilant. He emphasized that “heaven helps those who help themselves” and insisted that such stories circulating online are real and should be taken seriously.
The post echoed an earlier viral warning urging passengers to immediately alight if any okada rider seeks permission to divert to Awe Street for any reason, claiming the area is allegedly associated with a human slaughtering den. It also referenced a second victim testifying on the same day, heightening fears that criminal elements may be targeting unsuspecting commuters, particularly women.
As of the time of this report, no official confirmation or denial has been issued by the Benue State Police Command regarding the claims, nor has there been any public statement addressing the repeated allegations centered on Awe Street and its surroundings. Residents of Wurukum and adjoining areas continue to express concern, with many calling for increased security patrols and thorough investigation into the recurring abduction scare stories.
The incidents have once again spotlighted the vulnerability of commercial motorcycle passengers in parts of Makurdi, especially at night or in less busy areas, and renewed appeals for caution when boarding okada, including sharing ride details with trusted contacts and refusing unscheduled detours.
