Residents of the Wadata area in Makurdi, Benue State, are sounding the alarm over a damaged underground water pipeline managed by the Benue State Water Board, allegedly severed by Bauhaus Construction Company during ongoing road works along the newly constructed Alia Road. The incident, reported on December 23, 2025, has resulted in uncontrolled water leakage for the third time, raising fears of severe consequences for the fresh infrastructure.
The affected section lies on Sokoto Street, near Kaduna Street, where a large pipeline has been gushing water persistently. Eyewitnesses describe the leakage as a significant hazard, potentially undermining the newly built drainage system and the road itself. If left unaddressed, experts and locals warn, it could lead to structural collapse, erosion, and expensive repairs, negating recent investments in urban renewal under Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration.
The Alia Road project is part of broader efforts to upgrade Makurdi’s township roads, with multiple infrastructure initiatives underway across the capital.
