Hon. Yenge Raphael, the Executive Chairman of Tarka Local Government Area (LGA), has marked his first year in office with an impressive scorecard of landmark achievements, as highlighted ahead of the 7th anniversary celebrations. The community has witnessed significant developments across infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and youth empowerment, showcasing the chairman’s commitment to progress.
1. Modern Office Renovation: The chairman’s office has been revamped to meet modern standards, symbolizing a new era of governance.
2. Infrastructure Boost: Notable projects include the installation of a 500KV transformer at Zongo, grading of the Nyambe-Ukyough rural road linking Tarka LGA with Guma LGA, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights at the secretariat and chairman’s quarters.
3. Youth Empowerment: A skills acquisition program has trained over 400 youths in various skills, trades, and vocations, while 117 students from primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions received scholarships.
4. Healthcare and Transportation: The renovation and resuscitation of an abandoned Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) in Ijormenger, alongside the fixing of an ambulance and a legislative eighteen-sitter bus, have improved local services.
5. Agricultural Support: Provision of farm inputs and knapsack sprayers to selected farmers aims to boost agricultural productivity.
6. Community Development: Projects like the construction of a badminton pitch at the chairman’s quarters, renovation of blocks at Tarka Senior Staff Quarters, and the distribution of 5,000 exercise books to school pupils reflect a holistic approach to community welfare.
7. Electrification Efforts: Ongoing rural electrification projects in Pipeline, Aso, Cherrywood, and Likpo communities, along with the installation of transformers at Tse Agbuku (Mbaikyaa Tarka LGA) and Kontien Village, are enhancing living standards.
8. Additional Initiatives: The fixing of two tractors, renovation of VIP toilets at Annune Market Square, and the donation of an electric bike to Ijormenger health facility underscore the chairman’s diverse impact.
While the achievements have been widely celebrated, some residents have raised questions about the funding, with speculations about external sources like “yahoo” (cyber fraud) due to perceived delays in Benue State Government allocations. However, the chairman’s office has credited these developments to strategic planning and support from Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia.
