Get ready to cheer, because Alia TV Network is throwing a virtual party to honor an extraordinary milestone—Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, the brilliant Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), turns 50 today! Born in 1975 in the vibrant Tsegehem Village of Guma Local Government Area, this trailblazing leader’s life is a thrilling tapestry of discipline, vision, and an unstoppable drive for excellence.
Dr. Hwande’s story kicks off with a solid foundation at Saint Theresa’s Primary School and Mount Saint Gabriel’s Secondary School in Makurdi. From there, he soared to earn his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and later became a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. His global adventures—training in India, the United States, and across Nigeria—have forged him into not just a skilled physician, but a true pioneer in healthcare leadership. Talk about a journey worth celebrating!
Appointed CMD on October 17, 2023, by Governor Hyacinth Alia, Dr. Hwande stepped into the daunting task of reviving a struggling BSUTH, plagued by underinvestment and crumbling infrastructure. In less than two years, he’s turned the tide, transforming it into a beacon of hope and one of the region’s most promising medical hubs! His game-changing initiatives include launching IVF services, spearheading a jaw-dropping ₦20 billion Ultra-Modern Cancer Centre, and unveiling projects like the VIP Smart Clinic, Hospital Water Works, and a Therapeutic Centre for Children with Special Needs. With AI-powered diagnostics and telemedicine platforms, he’s supercharging access and efficiency while revitalizing BSUTH’s academic edge with cutting-edge research and department accreditations.
But Dr. Hwande’s impact doesn’t stop at medicine—he’s a philanthropy superstar! Every birthday, he rolls up his sleeves for service, and this year, he’s lighting up IBB Square in Makurdi with a special celebration for children with autism and special needs. Teaming up with Governor Alia, he’s cleared arrears and boosted salaries, lifting morale and restoring pride to healthcare heroes. This is a legacy of love in action!
Off the clock, Dr. Hwande shines as a devoted family man, embodying love, stability, and integrity. As an active Knight of St. John International (KSJ), his faith and community spirit add even more depth to his inspiring character.
The dynamic duo of Governor Alia and Dr. Hwande is rewriting healthcare’s future in Benue State, sparking hope and delivering real relief to citizens. Today, as we toast this visionary, we’re not just celebrating a man—we’re honoring a beacon of service, excellence, compassion, and philanthropy who’s paving the way for a healthier, brighter tomorrow.
Here’s to Dr. Hwande—may his next chapter be filled with continued success and unstoppable strength! Join us in wishing him a spectacular 50th birthday!
