The Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) successfully held promotional examinations for 260 members of staff on Thursday, January 12, 2026, in what the hospital’s management has described as a clear demonstration of fairness, professionalism, and institutional integrity.
The exercise, which covered both senior and junior cadres, was praised by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, for its organisation and execution. According to Dr. Hwande, the examinations were conducted with the highest standards of transparency and credibility, ensuring that every participant had a genuine opportunity to showcase their knowledge, competence, and dedication to public service.
A total of 225 senior staff and 35 junior staff from various departments across the hospital sat for the exams. The assessment tested participants on critical areas including public service rules, professional knowledge relevant to their roles, financial regulations, and general studies. The CMD emphasised that the process allowed staff to prove their readiness for career progression based solely on merit, reinforcing BSUTH’s commitment to a culture of excellence and accountability.
Dr. Hwande highlighted that such structured and open promotional exercises are essential for building a motivated, capable workforce capable of delivering quality healthcare services to the people of Benue State. He noted that merit-based advancement not only boosts staff morale but also strengthens the hospital’s overall capacity to provide effective, efficient, and patient-centered care.
The successful conduct of the examinations has been welcomed by staff and observers as a positive step in sustaining high institutional standards at BSUTH. Management reiterated its resolve to continue prioritising transparency, professionalism, and competence in all aspects of human resource management, ensuring that career progression remains tied to performance and dedication rather than other considerations.
For many of the participants, the exercise represented more than just an assessment — it was an affirmation that hard work and professional growth are recognised and rewarded within the institution. As BSUTH continues to position itself as a leading tertiary healthcare facility in the region, initiatives like this are seen as vital to maintaining trust, improving service delivery, and upholding the values of public service excellence.
