The Chief Medical Director of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, has restated the institution’s unwavering commitment to zero tolerance for indiscipline, describing strict staff discipline as the foundation for professionalism, accountability, and quality healthcare delivery.

Dr. Hwande delivered the message on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, while addressing participants on the second day of the Batch A induction and orientation programme for staff recruited into the hospital from 2024. The ongoing programme is aimed at equipping newly employed personnel with a thorough understanding of BSUTH’s conditions of service, operational guidelines, due processes, and institutional expectations.

According to the CMD, the induction exercise is deliberately structured to familiarise new staff with the hospital’s core values, promote adherence to established rules and regulations, strengthen communication channels, and ensure that every team member can perform their duties responsibly and effectively in their assigned roles. He emphasised that order, accountability, and strict compliance with institutional standards are non-negotiable within the BSUTH system.

The second day of activities featured insightful presentations from key resource persons. Dr. Ben Amen Tongriang, Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (Clinical), spoke on the importance of patient-centred clinical care, while the hospital’s Legal Officer, Barrister Mrs. Stella Naswem, PhD, addressed ethical issues in healthcare delivery and their legal implications.

The induction programme forms part of BSUTH’s broader institutional strategy to build a strong organisational culture, reinforce ethical standards, and continuously improve the quality of care provided to patients across Benue State. Hospital management believes that well-inducted, disciplined, and professionally oriented staff are essential to achieving these goals and sustaining public confidence in the teaching hospital.

As the orientation continues, observers note that the emphasis on discipline, ethics, and patient-focused service reflects the leadership’s determination to position BSUTH as a model healthcare institution in the region.
