The Benue State Government, in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and other humanitarian partners, has resumed the biometric registration of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across the state. The initiative officially commenced today at the International Market IDP Camp in Makurdi.

The exercise aims to update and consolidate data on displaced populations, enhancing effective planning, equitable distribution of relief materials, and long-term interventions for durable solutions. Speaking at the flag-off, BSEMA Executive Secretary, Sir James Andoaka Iorpuu PhD, represented by Camp Manager Robert Nyom, emphasized the critical role of accurate data in addressing the humanitarian needs of displaced persons in Benue. He highlighted that biometric registration will eliminate duplication, improve accountability, and ensure every IDP is accounted for.
