Benue Police Foil Car Snatching Plot, Recover Stolen Mercedes SUV in Otukpo

The Benue State Police Command has once again demonstrated its commitment to curbing crime through swift intelligence sharing and decisive action. On October 24, 2025, operatives in Otukpo, acting on a tip-off from the Imo State Police Command, intercepted a black Mercedes Benz ML350 4MATIC SUV reported stolen at gunpoint in Owerri, Imo State.

Four male suspects were arrested during the sting operation. Preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle was being ferried to another destination when intercepted. Recovered items included two Android phones, three button phones, a power bank, criminal charms, and documents belonging to a different vehicle.

The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Makurdi for further investigation. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the car-snatching syndicate. The Commissioner of Police, CP Innocent Ijeanyi Emenari, PhD, Psc, mnips, commended the operatives for their swift response and urged the public to continue sharing credible intelligence to sustain the fight against crime.
