In a significant breakthrough, the Benue State Police Command has arrested a woman suspected of child trafficking and successfully rescued 11 victims in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area. The suspect, identified as Priscilia Mhiive Terhemen from the Mbachir community in Katsina-Ala, allegedly transported the children to Benin City, Edo State.
According to security operatives, the rescued minors were safely recovered in Edo State with the assistance of Benue indigenes residing there. The victims have since been reunited with their families in their hometown. The freed children include Iwuese Terkimbi (5), Sulma Terhemen (7), Sechiur Orsuyi (8), Sunday Mlumum (20), Nguveren Sunday (15), Doose Mwaave (12), Ternenge Wuave (11), Mnena Terhemen (16), Aondonengen Terkimbir (12), Nensha Terhemen (10), and Saakuma Terhemen (13).
Police sources confirmed that the victims have been documented, and the suspect remains in custody. The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover further details of the trafficking operation.
This operation underscores the ongoing efforts by the Benue State Police to combat child trafficking and ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals in the region. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid in the fight against such crimes.
