The State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, Tim Nyor, has resigned from his position and formally withdrawn his membership from the party with immediate effect.
In a statement released on Friday, February 21, 2026, Nyor explained that his decision came after deep reflection and what he described as a painful realisation that he could no longer function effectively within a party structure he believes is on a path toward self-destruction.
He emphasised that loyalty should never equate to complicity, and true commitment must not demand the surrender of one’s conscience. Nyor stated that he has chosen to align himself with what he regards as a genuine developmental trajectory for the state, openly declaring his support for the reform-driven administration of Governor Hyacinth Iormemem Alia.
Describing the governor’s efforts as a “Benue Renaissance,” Nyor praised the focus on infrastructure, education, security, and overall governance renewal. He stressed that safeguarding his personal dignity, conscience, and mental well-being must now take precedence over partisan affiliation at this stage of his life.
While expressing gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities, relationships, and experiences gained over the years, Nyor made it clear that his resignation is final and irrevocable.
Political observers view the development as potentially significant, suggesting it could spark renewed discussions and possible realignments within the state’s opposition camp ahead of future electoral cycles. Nyor’s exit from the PDP publicity role removes a key voice from the opposition messaging machinery in Benue at a time when the ruling APC continues to consolidate power under Governor Alia’s leadership.
