Benue Group Warns Public Against Serial POS Scammer Operating in Markets

A Facebook post by the group Benue-Family-For-Unity has alerted residents in Benue State to be vigilant against a suspected serial scammer targeting POS (Point of Sale) operators in local markets.

According to the post by Emmanuel Aondoaver Iorwase, the individual in question had previously scammed a POS operator, was caught, “dealt with accordingly,” and later released. However, he was reportedly spotted again in another market attempting to scam another POS operator using the same tactics.

The post includes several photos of the man: one showing him shirtless and lying face down on the ground (apparently after being caught previously), another where he is sitting in a yellow and red shirt, and a clearer portrait of him holding a drink while wearing a DHL-branded shirt.

The message urges the public to “stay vigilant and watch out” for this individual to prevent further victims.

This type of alert is common on Benue social media platforms, where community groups and individuals frequently share warnings about scammers, thieves, and other fraudsters operating in markets and public spaces. POS operators are particularly vulnerable targets because they handle cash and mobile money transactions daily.

The post has been shared and reshared by other groups, including Igede People, reflecting the concern over rising cases of fraud and the community’s effort to protect one another through information sharing.

Residents, especially POS operators and traders in Benue markets, have been advised to remain cautious, verify transactions carefully, and report suspicious individuals to appropriate authorities or community leaders.
