The Benue State Government has strongly refuted what it describes as “mischievous attempts” to misrepresent the ongoing demolition exercise along the Wurukum-Yaikyor-Apir-Ikpayongo axis in Makurdi, clarifying that the action is part of a broader federal road expansion project.

In a statement issued on November 6, 2025, authorities emphasized that the demolitions are not arbitrary but align with long-planned infrastructure upgrades aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity in the state capital. The government accused certain individuals of spreading distorted narratives to incite public unrest and undermine the project’s objectives.

The government urged citizens to disregard misinformation and cooperate with officials to ensure the smooth execution of the project. It also promised that affected property owners would be duly compensated in line with established procedures.

This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of urban renewal efforts in Makurdi, where rapid population growth has put pressure on existing infrastructure. The federal road expansion, once completed, is expected to enhance economic activity and safety along one of the busiest routes in the state.
