Benue-based content creator Don Wagzy Mo’mennn has been released following an apology from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gboko Central Police Station, bringing a swift resolution to an incident that generated significant public attention.
In an update shared on social media, Don Wagzy disclosed that the new DPO, Mr. Agba, personally apologized to him on behalf of the police unit after intervening in the matter. The creator had earlier alleged unfair arrest and detention by a police officer who reportedly became angered when he stated he did not yet have money in life, emphasizing that his achievements so far were in popularity rather than wealth.
According to Don Wagzy, the officer involved was subsequently detained earlier in the day on the DPO’s directive. He was later invited to the station in the evening, where the officer was brought forward, admitted to refusing earlier intervention attempts by colleagues on the creator’s behalf, and also tendered an apology. Don Wagzy revealed that bail money previously paid was refunded following the resolution.
The content creator expressed appreciation to the new DPO for what he described as justice over his treatment and thanked Sir Ukan Kurugh for his swift intervention after the issue gained public traction.
Reflecting on the experience, Don Wagzy highlighted broader concerns about police-citizen relations in Nigeria. He noted that many citizens feel uneasy and panicked when encountering police officers rather than safe, adding that it is wrong for young people to be automatically treated as criminals based on appearance. He stressed that many youths are legitimately working hard to earn a living and deserve fair treatment.
The incident has reignited online discussions about alleged harassment, abuse of power, and the need for improved professionalism and accountability within law enforcement agencies. Calls continue for clearer guidelines to prevent similar encounters and foster mutual respect between security personnel and the public.
