Benue Assembly Hails Governor Alia’s Transformational Leadership on Democracy Day

The Benue State House of Assembly has congratulated Governor Hyacinth Alia, his Deputy, Barr. Dr. Sam Ode, members of the State Executive Council, Local Government Council Chairmen, and the people of Benue State on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

In a Democracy Day message issued by the leadership of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga, the lawmakers described the anniversary as a fitting moment to reflect on the progress recorded under the current administration and to reaffirm commitment to democratic governance.

The Assembly stated that since assuming office, Governor Alia has demonstrated visionary and purposeful leadership through the implementation of policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of citizens and strengthening democratic institutions.

Lawmakers highlighted significant strides in infrastructure development, including the construction and rehabilitation of roads, bridges, schools, healthcare facilities, and other public infrastructure. They also commended achievements in the education sector through the renovation of schools, recruitment of teachers, payment of examination fees for students, and reforms aimed at enhancing the quality of learning.

The House further applauded the administration’s interventions in the health sector, including the revitalization of primary healthcare facilities, provision of medical equipment, and policies geared towards improving access to affordable healthcare services.

On agriculture, the lawmakers noted that Governor Alia’s commitment has continued to boost food production and strengthen the livelihoods of farmers through various support programmes and investment initiatives.

The Assembly equally praised the administration’s efforts in promoting security, social welfare, youth empowerment, women’s inclusion, and economic development, stating that these initiatives have contributed significantly to restoring public confidence in government.

The House maintained that the achievements recorded by the Alia administration clearly demonstrate the practical benefits of democratic governance and justify the state’s celebration of Democracy Day.

In addition, the lawmakers reflected on the performance of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly, noting its commitment to lawmaking, oversight, and representation. During the period under review, the House received 20 bills, passed 14 into law, and submitted several committee reports.

The Assembly called on citizens to continue supporting Governor Alia’s administration and democratic institutions while embracing peace, unity, tolerance, and active participation in governance.
