Prominent Benue activist and social commentator Ukan Kurugh has publicly declared his readiness to report to the Benue State Police Command in Makurdi on Monday, following what he describes as an attempt to intimidate him and his associate for their role in confronting injustice and speaking truth to power.

In a lengthy post shared on social media, Kurugh revealed that both he and his friend, referred to as Zege’Orkwande Sugnhnen Yaaya, received calls from the OC Legal at the State Police Command shortly after a petition was filed against them by one Mkor Aondona. The petition reportedly concerns a matter already pending before a court of law.

Kurugh stated that he informed the officer he was unavailable until Friday and later sent a message confirming he would report to the station by 10 a.m. on Monday. His friend, accompanied by his lawyer, proceeded to the command earlier, where it became clear the petition duplicated an existing court case.

Despite the lawyer explaining this fact, Kurugh alleged the police insisted on conducting their own investigation and detained his friend at the State Command since Thursday morning. He was informed that his associate would be charged to court on Friday.

Describing his friend as calm, resolute, and unbroken, Kurugh emphasized that neither of them is running from the law but standing firm in their commitment to advocacy. He wrote:

“This is not about us. This is about the voiceless people who have no one to call, no lawyer to accompany them, no platform to speak when society comes down hard on them. If our detention exposes this injustice, then so be it.”

Kurugh maintained that he remains fully prepared for whatever may unfold when he presents himself at the station on Monday. He insisted that no authority can break their spirit or silence their demand for change, adding that he would continue speaking out against injustice regardless of who feels threatened by the truth.

The activist further pledged to provide an update from detention if necessary, framing the situation as part of a broader struggle to reclaim humanity and confront systemic rot in society.

The development has sparked concern among observers who see it as potentially indicative of attempts to use state institutions to stifle civic voices and advocacy in Benue State. No official statement has been issued by the Benue State Police Command regarding the matter at the time of this report.
