Social activist D’naked Elder Sughnen Yaaya has publicly criticized the circumstances surrounding the arrest of two young women from Benue State in Uromi, Edo State, alleging that they were involved in prostitution and related disturbances. In a detailed Facebook post on January 9, 2026, Yaaya claimed the women were caught after neighbors complained of excessive noise from their hotel room, where they were reportedly entertaining five men while consuming hard drugs including ice, cannabis, and weed.

According to the post, the group had lodged in the hotel for several days, engaging in loud sexual activities and drug use, prompting irritated neighbors to alert the police. Upon arrival at Uromi police station, the Divisional Police Officer reportedly granted the women bail, focusing the arrest primarily on drug possession and public disturbance rather than prostitution.

Yaaya expressed frustration with what he described as a recurring negative stereotype linking Benue women to prostitution, noting that similar cases have tarnished the state’s image in collaboration with the office of the Personal Assistant to the Governor on Human Trafficking and Child Labour. He specifically highlighted two cases: one woman wearing a “fvcking black barbie” shirt who allegedly abandoned a one-year-eight-month-old child to pursue such activities in Konshisha LGA, and another who left home six years ago without contact, leaving her parents to believe she had died.

While acknowledging efforts by the Edo State Government to curb prostitution within its borders, Yaaya firmly stated he would not assist in repatriating individuals engaged in such activities back to Benue, declaring “Never.” He urged Benue women involved in prostitution to operate in other states or countries and, if arrested, to claim those locations as their origin to avoid further stigmatizing Benue.

The post has sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporting the activist’s tough stance against activities that harm the state’s reputation, while others call for compassion and rehabilitation for vulnerable individuals. As of now, no official statement has been released by authorities in either Edo or Benue regarding the specific incident. The case underscores ongoing challenges around human trafficking, prostitution, and interstate migration among young people seeking economic opportunities.
