The NKST Church (Nongo u Kristu u i Ser u sha Tar) is observing the 40th anniversary of the passing of one of its most revered leaders, Rev. (Dr) Joseph Elisha Ishoribo Sai, popularly remembered as “The January Man.” Pastor Sai died on January 31, 1986, and the milestone is being marked with deep reflection on his enduring legacy within the church and the wider Christian community in Benue State and beyond.

Pastor Sai’s life was remarkably intertwined with the month of January, a coincidence that many in the church view as deeply symbolic. He was born in January, married in January, ordained as a pastor in January, transferred from Apir Classis to HARGA Classis in January, received the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) in January 1982, retired from active pastoral service in January, and eventually passed away in January.

Forty years after his death, members of the NKST Church say his influence continues to resonate strongly across congregations. He is remembered not only for these milestones but for the depth of his faith, his disciplined character, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to the Gospel.

Throughout his ministry, Pastor Sai devoted himself fully to the service of God and the expansion of the NKST Church. He earned widespread respect through simplicity, personal sacrifice, and consistent Christian living rather than through seeking public recognition or acclaim. His approach was marked by humility and a focus on spiritual integrity over outward show.

As the church commemorates this anniversary, reflections have extended beyond mere remembrance to calls for self-examination. While the NKST Church has experienced significant numerical growth, infrastructural development, and institutional expansion over the past four decades, many faithful believe the occasion should serve as a moment to renew commitment to the core values of consecration, selfless service, and spiritual discipline that characterized Pastor Sai’s life and ministry.

Though he never pursued personal praise, Pastor Sai received national recognition during his lifetime through the MON award. Church members express confidence that he has now received an eternal reward far greater than any earthly honour.

In marking the anniversary, the NKST Church has expressed gratitude for Pastor Sai’s life and ministry while reaffirming hope in the principles he embodied. The occasion is being used to recommit to the standards of dedication, humility, and faithfulness he exemplified.

Often described by the faithful as a servant who “began well, ran well, and finished well” in God’s appointed time, Pastor Joseph Elisha Ishoribo Sai’s earthly journey ended decades ago, yet his legacy, they say, remains a living influence that continues to shape and inspire the NKST Church today.
