Gboko is set to host a vibrant weekend of activities as the Yandev community marks the fifth edition of its annual Yandev Day Celebration on January 3 and 4, 2026, bringing together top government officials, dignitaries, and community members for a mix of health outreach, cultural displays, and thanksgiving.
Organized by the Central Planning Committee (CPC) in collaboration with the Yandev Community Development Association (YCDA), the event invites Yandev sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora, along with friends and the general public, to join in the festivities. A statement signed by CPC Secretary Comr. Bem Yaasa on behalf of Chairman Hon. Tivhemba Apev and YCDA President-General Mr. Christopher Ukeh outlined a packed schedule aimed at fostering unity and development.
The celebration kicks off on Saturday, January 3, 2026, with a free medical outreach at Community Secondary School, Yandev, Gboko Local Government Area, running from 6:00am to 4:00pm, offering essential health services to residents. This will be followed by a novelty football match at the same venue starting at 4:30pm, adding a sporting highlight to the day.
Activities continue on Sunday, January 4, 2026, with a thanksgiving service at St. James Parish, Mbadeda, Genyi Yandev, beginning at 10:00am. The grand finale will unfold at 1:00pm back at Community Secondary School, Yandev, under the chairmanship of Chief Emmanuel Jime, with Chief Hon. Mrs. Dorothy Mato (Pendatyu u Tiv) serving as Chairlady.
Leading the lineup of distinguished guests is the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia (Asôr Tar u Tiv), who will attend as Chief Guest of Honour. Also expected are Secretary to the Government of the Federation Sen. George Akume, Chief Mike Mku, and Hon. Mrs. Becky Orpin as Fathers and Mother of the Day. The Executive Chairman of Gboko LGA, Barr. Terseer Yina, and Commissioner for Transportation, Power and Renewable Energy Dr. Joseph Jir will serve as Chief Host and Host respectively, while CMD of BSUTH Chief Dr. Terungwa Hwande attends as Special Guest. Prof. Phillips Terwase Ajai will deliver the guest lecture.
