In a surprising development in the ongoing case of a young girl reported missing in Makurdi, Benue State, a woman has come forward asserting that she is the child’s biological mother. The update surfaced on December 28, 2025, bringing new layers of complexity to what initially appeared to be a straightforward missing person report.
The girl, who identified herself as Anadoo Celina Mbuew, claimed she had traveled from Gboko to Makurdi to visit her aunt, Mrs. Happiness Iornem. She stated that her parents reside in Gboko and that she had missed her way while in the capital.
However, in the early hours of Sunday, around 2:30 a.m., a woman named Mrs. Doo Bridget Sombu contacted concerned parties, insisting that the girl is her daughter. According to Mrs. Sombu, the child’s real name is Mimidoo Michelle Sombo, and the family home is located at North Bank, opposite the Federal Housing Estate second gate in Makurdi.
This claim directly contradicts the girl’s own account. When contacted, Mrs. Iornem and her husband denied any knowledge of the girl or her story, further fueling doubts about the initial narrative.
To support her assertion, Mrs. Sombu was requested to provide video evidence for identification. She later submitted photographs, which were shared in related discussions (though not including the initial circulating image of the girl). These photos are intended to help verify the familial connection.
Authorities and involved individuals are continuing further verification and documentation efforts to confirm the girl’s true identity and facilitate a potential reunion with her family. The case highlights the challenges in resolving missing persons reports amid conflicting statements, with ongoing investigations aimed at establishing the facts.
As details emerge, the situation underscores the importance of thorough checks in such sensitive matters involving minors. The public awaits clarity on whether this marks the resolution of the case or reveals deeper inconsistencies.
