A young resident of Makurdi has turned a simple act of environmental service into a powerful statement of gratitude, single-handedly clearing waste from clogged gutters as a personal show of appreciation for Governor Hyacinth Alia’s leadership in Benue State. The initiative has not only cleaned the streets but also captured the hearts of local leaders and residents alike.

The unnamed youth spent hours under the sun, removing debris and restoring flow to drainage channels in his community. His effort quickly went viral, drawing the attention of top government officials. Leading the commendation was Hon. Orwough Maurice, Chairman of Guma Local Government and former ALGON chairman, alongside Hon. Emmanuel Terungwa Iorbee, Principal Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol and Wardrobe. Also present was Hon. Haakyav Tombu Peter, a well-known Benue businessman, and popular comedian Igboji.

The gesture has sparked conversations about the role of individual action in nation-building, especially in a time when many complain but few contribute. The youth’s quiet dedication—done without fanfare or expectation—stands in stark contrast to the usual demands for government intervention. Instead, he chose to *be* the change he wanted to see.
