Benue’s social media streets are on fire, and the three men paid to put out the flames are nowhere to be found.

In a blistering open letter that has since gone viral, the Coalition of Social Media Activists and Advocates for Good Governance and Accountability has publicly dragged Governor Hyacinth Alia’s media team into the town square and flogged them senseless for what they call “spectacular incompetence.”

The accused?-

Tersoo Kula, Press Secretary

– Dr. Peter Oboh, Commissioner for Information
– Asortar James, Special Assistant on Social Media

Their crime? Total silence while damaging rumours, half-truths and outright falsehoods trend unchecked, eating away at the governor’s hard-earned reputation like acid.

In 2025, battles are won or lost on WhatsApp statuses, Facebook posts and X timelines long before they reach radio or TV. Yet according to the coalition, Alia’s media handlers have been reposting birthday messages and dancing videos while the administration gets roasted daily.

They spelled it out plainly:
A Press Secretary who doesn’t speak when it matters.
A Commissioner for Information who apparently forgot information needs managing.
A Social Media SA who treats the governor’s handles like personal pages instead of war rooms.

The statement didn’t mince words: “This negligence is shameful and unacceptable. Benue citizens deserve a media team that counters falsehoods decisively instead of one that wakes up only to repost whatever is already trending, true or false.”

They ended with a direct order to Governor Alia: reassess these appointees immediately, or watch the administration continue bleeding credibility it can’t afford to lose.

By yesterday evening, none of the three named officials had responded. No press release, no tweet, no late-night Facebook rebuttal; just the deafening silence the coalition accused them of in the first place.

The irony is thicker than Benue kunu.

As one popular commenter put it: “They are missing in action while complaining that people are missing the action. Perfect.”

Whether this public humiliation finally forces the media team to wake up, get replaced, or at least issue one decent rebuttal remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: in today’s Benue, the governor’s image is under 24-hour attack, and the people paid to defend it are currently the weakest link in the entire administration.

Your move, Government House. The clock is ticking louder than ever.
