Tensions are rising in Une, Tongov, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, following an alleged assault on a driver by Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO). According to eyewitness accounts, a driver identified as Mr. Kato Kator, a native of Zaki Biam, was reportedly beaten by VIO personnel operating along the Zaki Biam-Ugba road. The officers are said to have a checkpoint stationed at Une and Kela.
The unit is allegedly headed by Mr. Ankwa Kumator, with officers Kanahan Jerome, Orlunan Oryum, Terkimbi Iorver, and Mtindian Aondofa working under him. The incident has sparked outrage among local youths, who argue that VIO officers have no legal authority to assault motorists. Residents of Une are now demanding that the VIO vacate their community, insisting that such operations are unwelcome if they result in violence and intimidation.
Community elders are said to be making efforts to resolve the matter peacefully, but the growing anger among youths has raised concerns of possible escalation if urgent steps are not taken by the appropriate authorities. The situation remains fluid as the community awaits a resolution.
