The Benue State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has taken delivery of twenty Boxer operational motorcycles from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to strengthen first-response capabilities across the state. The motorcycles were received on 31 August 2026.
The formal transfer followed the signing of an Agreement on Ownership and Transfer of UNHCR Assets between the Corps and the UN agency. Arjun Jain, a representative of UNHCR, stated that the organisation regards the NSCDC as a humanitarian, non-profit body whose purpose aligns with the mandate of UNHCR. He urged the Corps to put the assets to maximum use in enhancing frontline responses to security challenges in Benue.
State Commandant CC Bitrus Alice Larai, represented by Deputy Commandant in charge of Administration DCC Ajor John, commended UNHCR for its contribution to improving the Corps’ ability to respond to security emergencies. The Commandant also acknowledged the coordinating role of the State Emergency Management Agency and pledged that the motorcycles would be fully utilised for operational duties.
The NSCDC noted that it is expanding its administrative and operational structures in Benue in response to changing security dynamics and the need to address asymmetric conflicts. The State Commandant warned against any unprofessional use of the motorcycles and directed the Head of Technical Services to monitor their deployment and functionality, stressing that the machines must not be moved from their assigned locations without prior approval.
The operational motorcycles are scheduled for deployment in high-security-risk local government areas including Guma, Kwande, Logo, Agatu, Apa and Otukpo. The statement was issued by SC EA Michael, Command Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the State Commandant.
