Governor Alia Condemns Deadly Attack on Saai Community, Orders Immediate Security Deployment

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the recent attack on the Saai community in Mbajir ward, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.

The unfortunate incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, July 1, 2026, resulted in the deaths of several people while many others sustained various degrees of injuries. The attack was allegedly carried out by terrorists masquerading as herdsmen.

Describing the tragedy as a “senseless assault on innocent citizens,” Governor Alia stated that the attack is an ugly, cowardly, and unacceptable act of violence, especially at a time when hardworking farmers have returned to their ancestral lands to cultivate their farms.

The Governor extended his deepest condolences to the families who lost loved ones and prayed for the swift and total recovery of those receiving medical attention. He assured the Saai community of his solidarity during this period of grief.

In response to the incident, Governor Alia issued a direct and immediate order to all relevant security agencies to:

1. Deploy additional personnel to Saai and surrounding communities to prevent further incursions.
2. Launch a manhunt for the perpetrators to ensure they are brought to justice.
3. Ensure the safety of farmers as they tend to their crops, guaranteeing no further disruption to agricultural activities.

The Governor urged citizens to remain calm but vigilant and to report any suspicious movements to the nearest security post. He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and livelihoods, stating that the government will not allow forces of darkness to drive people away from their lands or dampen their spirits.
