The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has strongly condemned the killing of its Benue State Chairman, Alhaji Ardo Risku, describing it as a “dastardly and deeply disturbing act.”
In a statement signed by its National President, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, MACBAN revealed that the chairman was shot several times at Okudu village in Ohimini Local Government Area, barely one hour after attending a security meeting convened by the local government authorities.
The association expressed serious concerns about the timing of the attack, noting that it raises questions of possible premeditation. It described the incident as particularly troubling since the victim had just participated in a meeting meant to promote peace.
MACBAN also flagged the alleged attack on one of the chairman’s children, a lawyer, in a village the previous week, highlighting a disturbing pattern. The group urged security agencies to immediately investigate the murder, identify those responsible, and ensure that justice is served.
The association warned that the killing of community leaders and peace advocates threatens efforts towards reconciliation, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence in the state. It stressed that those who seek to destabilise society through violence must not be allowed to succeed.
