Gov. Alia Suspends SUBEB Chairman, Otukpo LG Chairman and Lottery Commission Secretary

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has approved the suspension of the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs. Grace Adagba, and the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri.

Also affected is the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Mr. Michael Uper, who was similarly suspended for one month.

The decision, announced on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, followed resolutions passed by the Benue State House of Assembly and conveyed to the Governor’s office. The suspensions took immediate effect.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law, due process, and the principle of separation of powers. He praised the State Assembly for exercising its constitutional role and assured citizens of his administration’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The Governor urged all affected agencies to ensure uninterrupted service delivery during the suspension period while calling on the people of Benue State to continue supporting his government’s efforts to build a state that works for all.
